Gyeran Jjim (Korean Steamed Eggs)

Gyeran Jjim(계란찜) is a tasty side dish(banchan) that is quite popular in Korea. It’s main ingredients are eggs and water but shrimp sauce, onions, pepper and sesame oil is generally used too.

Preparing Gyeran Jjim is very easy. You blend the main ingredients eggs and water together with additional ingredients of your choice and then add the seasoning. If you want to have it faster, you can cook it in a microwave oven. It should be done in about 5 minutes. If you don’t have a microwave oven or if you want to cook it in a more authentic method -why not!- you will have to put a bit more work into it and cook the mixture by steaming.  To do it, you will have to put the mixed ingredients in a bowl and place that into a pot of boiling water. With that method, it should take you like 15 minutes.

You can have it in launch, you can have it in breakfast -or as breakfast!- and you can have it in dinner. It is a beloved side dish in Korea for a reason. A lot of people like it, and if you don’t have a particular problem with eggs, I think you will like it too. So go ahead and try it!
