Patbingsu(Red beans with ice)

patbingsu

It can be said about shaved ice that it is a kind of a snack among other desserts. Loved by almost everyone, while it can be enjoyed pretty well by itself, here you have it with red bean paste, syrup, milk and fruit toppings.

The snack/dessert -the name of which literally means red beans with ice– was originally consisted of ice shavings and red bean paste(pat, 팥).  During the Korean War, other ingredients like cream, syrup and fruits were introduced by the foreign influence.

So as you can guess, not everyone follows the tradition and as a result there are many versions of this dessert. Some of the popular flavours you can enjoy are coffee, yogurt and green tea.
